Hicks, Vickie Louise (Marriage - 17 June 1955)

In a candlelight ceremony Friday evening at 7 o’clock in Trinity Methodist Church, Miss Vickie Louise Hicks became the bride of Wayne Franklin Grap.  Reverend C. D. Barclift officiated in the double-ring rites. The wedding took place at Durham, North Carolina.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Hicks of Durham, and the groom is the son of Mrs. Alice Grap of Neillsville, Wis.

Prior to the ceremony, Mrs. Bert Cunningham, organist, and Miss Martha Burch, cousin of the bride, soloist, presented a program of wedding music.

The vows were spoken before a background of Oregon ferns and palms, interspersed with seven branch candelabra, holding cathedral candles. Floor baskets of white gladioli, peonies, asters and baby breath were used on each side of the altar, and a white satin priedieu completed the decoration.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose for her wedding a dress of Chantilly lace and nylon tulle, featuring a fitted bodice, high neckline and long fitted sleeves ending in calla points over the wrists.  The full skirt of Nylon tulle was accented with lace inset panels.  Her veil of silk illusion fell from a matching Chantilly lace coronet, and she carried a bouquet of stephanotis, bride’s roses and pompons, centered with a purple throated white orchid.

Maid of honor was Miss Lucille Hayes.

Miss Nancy Hicks, sister of the bride, served as junior bridesmaid.  Bridesmaids were Miss Janice Abernathy, Miss Jeanette Fowler, and Miss Jean Hendley.

Best man for the groom was Arnold V. Utley.  Ushers were Cecil Brown, Mike Jones, Caliborne Hicks, Jr. , cousin of the bride, Newport News, Va., and W. E.  Gates, Jr., cousin of the bride.

Immediately following the ceremony, the bride’s parents entertained at a reception in the church parlor.

The couple will be at home at 411 State Street, Neillsville, Wis.

The bride received her education in the Durham city schools, and the groom is a graduate of the Neillsville High School.

Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Hicks, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Smith, Portsmouth, Va., Miss Ann Hoesly, Franklin H. Grap, Madison, Wis.
